About the
Artist
When not in his studio or framing works of
railroad art at
his business, Surroundings Gallery, Chuck can be
found along the right-of-way snapping railroad photos for
future studies. He graduated from the School of the
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 25+ years ago and
decided to meld together his passion for art with
his love for railroads.
What
you'll find:
You will find locomotives and
other rolling stock from Pennsylvania RR, New York
Central, Jersey Central, Delaware & Hudson, Boston
Maine, Erie Lackawanna, Lehigh Valley, and New
Haven.
About the
technique:
Chuck uses the cross hatch and line drawing,
pen and ink technique where shadow and light
are represented by dense or sparsely spaced
lines.
The meticulous
print process
The completed works are
photographically reduced and offset printed
on neutral ph stock. Edition sizes vary from
250 to 150 and are signed by the artist.
Some, but not all, of the editions are
numbered. The same drawing is never printed
twice. Once the edition is gone, it's gone!
Availability
Prints of pen and ink original drawings are available
on 11 x 14 paper, with an image of 8x10. Prints of
watercolor paintings are somewhat larger, made with
a fine art press, called giclee, on watercolor paper with inks
rated to 90 years. Note cards are also available of
twelve pen and ink images.
Other
Media
Chuck also works in graphite, ink wash, and watercolor. Giclee color prints are made on watercolor paper. As they
become available, they will be posted.
Chuck's Art
Chuck's art can be found on Ebay from time to time and
in person at the annual Railroad and Hobby Show, at
the Eastern States Exposition Center in West
Springfield, sponsored by the Amherst Railroad
Society. He specializes in railroads of the
Northeast but is willing to add to the collection by
special request.
